Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a form of regenerative medicine to help reduce pain & inflammation in musculoskeletal tissues by enhancing the healing process. This therapy can help improve function and decrease pain for tendonitis, bursitis, inflammatory conditions and arthritis. Athletes have reported being able to recover fully and return to their sports quicker from these therapies, with very minimal risks.
In these photos. Dr. Ripu Arora is doing a PRP injection, guided by ultrasound to target injured tissue for precise needle placement, for a patient experiencing pain and inflammation at the ball of his foot. After any activities and tennis, the patient experienced extreme pain in the foot. He used a medical "boot" for about a month and conservative treatment but he still had pain. After this treatment, he started to improve and was able to do more activities including playing tennis.
This simple procedure takes approx 30 mins. First, your own blood is collected from the arm, then placed in a special centrifuge and spun to separate the platelet-rich plasma from red blood cells. Next, the doctor extracted only the platelet-rich plasma and injects this into the exact location. After the procedure instructions were given to allow the process of healing and repair.
If you are dealing with pain and discomfort in a joint, consider regenerative medicine as an option for you.
